Docker is Tigers newest Community Hero

16th November 2011

Hull CityAFC are delighted to announce that Cath Dooley, a long-serving and dedicated volunteer atHull DockersRLFC, is the latest Community Hero, an award which honours individuals who make a positive contribution their community.

Cath and members of her family will be guests at Hull City’s home fixture against Burnleyon November 26 with the tickets courtesy of club sponsor Neil Hudgell Solicitors, specialists in claims for personal injury and medical negligence.

Cath has been actively involved with Hull Dockers for more than 17 years. Her links began when her son Mark began playing for the Club at aged 14. Cath’s been treasurer and secretary of the youth section and has been in her present role as Club Co-ordinator for the past seven years.

Jackie Evins, who nominated Cath as a Community Hero, said: “Cath fundraises tirelessly, organising events, bag packs, anything that needs doing to keep the club going she’ll do and has done so for years – I think she’s thoroughly deserving of recognition.”

Cath, who also works as aLearning and DevelopmentOfficer for JobCentre Plus, said she was delighted but very surprised to be a Community Hero.

Cath said: “I don’t really think I’m doing anything special and there’s a great team at Hull Dockers who all work equally hard as me to make the club successful. I suppose I always try to help people if I can – it’s not always possible but I just do my best.”

Cath has also been involved for over 20 years in the Girl Guiding Association, again getting involved when her daughter Sam joined The Brownies. She’s served twice as District Commissioner.

Linton Brown, Commercial Manager at Hull CityAFC, said: “The enthusiasm and dedication of people like Cath is what helps so many people, particularly youngsters, get involved in sport. I am really pleased that we can thank her and recognise her achievements as a Community Hero.”

Hull Dockers, established in 1880 and based at The Willows Sports and Social Club on Holderness Road, has more than 200 members, many of whom have played rugby league professionally including Des Harrison (Hull KR) andNick Pinkney(Hull KR and England).

Cath is particularly pleased that as well as enjoying success on the field so many members, who joined as youngsters, keep up their association and get involved as coaches and volunteers. Dockers now have eight youth teams, which take boys and girls from the age of eight, and hope to add a ninth next year. There is also the Diddy Dockers for four and five year olds, attended by Cath’s own grandsons Jake Bell, aged 6, and Conlan Dooley, aged 4.

Cath will be watching Tigers play Burnley with Jake, his dad Pete Bell and her daughter in law Lisa Dooley– all of whom are keen Tigers fans.
