Dedicated rugby coach is first to receive Robin’s new Community Heroes Award.

Rugby League coach Steve Broadhead is Hull Kingston Rover’s first Community Hero and will receive four tickets for the Super League match against St Helens on February 19, 2012.

The Community Heroes Award, sponsored by Neil Hudgell Solicitors, honours individuals who make a positive difference and contribution to their local area.

Steve has been the coach for East Hull Rugby Youth Club under 11s for the past five years. He was nominated for the Community Heroes Award by his wife Rebecca, who’s also the under 11s team manager.

Rebecca said: ““Steve’s been a life-long fan of Hull KR and worships the ground they play on. He’s also an outstanding coach for the youngsters, dedicated to the game 100%. All the parents and kids love him. Rugby definitely comes first in our house – if it’s not rugby ball shaped then Steve’s not interested!”

Rebecca and Steve, who’s a refuse collector for Hull City Council, have three children – Jacob, Annabel and Jared – and both boys play rugby.

Steve played for Hull Boys and, despite fighting meningitis three times, managed to get his name on the Shield of Endeavour. He continued to play until his mid-20s. He got into coaching when his youngest son started playing at East Hull ARLFC which is based at St Richard’s RC Primary School on Marfield Lane.
