Four patients are dying hungry and thirsty on hospital wards every day, according to figures gathered and reported by The Daily Mail.
According to the newspaper, dehydration or malnutrition directly caused or were linked to more than 1, 300 deaths last year in NHS trusts and privately run hospitals. The revelation follows a series of damning reports accusing staff of failing to address the most basic needs of the vulnerable, particularly the elderly.
Simon Wilson heads up the medical negligence team at Neil Hudgell Solicitors which has acted for a number of clients who’ve suffered poor care in hospitals and residential homes.
Commenting on The Mail’s report, Simon said: “These statistics are shocking and show that, in some hospitals, even basic care is sadly lacking and there is an urgent need to look after patients better.
“Through our work we know at first hand the devastating consequences that sub-standard care can have, particularly on vulnerable people and their families.”
