Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome

Working for an employer who requires you to use vibrating tools, such as drills, coring machines can, if working with for long periods of time, cause permanent and irreversible damage to the blood supply to your hands and arms.

What is referred to as Vibration White Finger (VWF) and now more commonly referred to as Harm Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) is a condition which causes daily pain and discomfort to those who suffer from it.

It is made all the more worse in bad weather conditions, where the fingers can become white and you lose sensation which makes the ability to cope at work extremely difficult.

The range of symptoms that HAVS and VWF can create are:

  • Tingling in the hands and in certain cases, aching wrists and forearms
  • Numb fingers with less sensitivity than usual
  • Fingertips turn white when cold due to restricted blood flow and there is painful tingling when blood flow returns

If you think your work with vibrating or percussive tools has resulted in HAVS or VWF, please contact us for free advice and support regarding your claim.
