Working for long periods of time in a noisy environment can cause permanent and irreversible damage to your hearing.
The effects of noise in the workplace upon your hearing is well known, employers have been required to provide a workplace without harmful levels of noise or, if that cannot be avoided, to provide adequate and sufficient hearing protection to prevent damage being caused to your hearing.
Sadly that isn’t always what happens.
If you have worked or continue to work in a noisy environment and were not provided with hearing protection, even if you are now, it is possible that your hearing may well have been affected or damaged.
You may also experience an uncomfortable noise in your ears in the form of whistling, ringing or other types of noise which can distract you and keep you awake at night, a condition called Tinnitus.
Tinnitus can be caused by working in a noisy environment and, like hearing loss, is irreversible and cannot be treated.
